Development tendencies and challenges
George W. Bush already tried passing a reformation of the American pension scheme. His suggestions of establishing private pension accounts that should receive an amount that would otherwise go to Old Age Insurance, however, did not meet widespread popularity. However, it is visible solely through the establishment of trust funds, that there is a trend towards an increasing number of funded pension insurance systems, and that the pay-as-you-go financing system that never had the same importance as in the FRG anyway is fading further and further into the background.
Even if the USA is not facing the same challenges as the FRG, the problems that are related to the growth of the elderly population cannot be ignored here either. We will have to wait and see how the new president Obama will deal with those challenges and what solutions can be worked out.
The Democratic Party doubts the credibility of predictions that foresee a failure of the Security System in the near future, and therefore warns of rash actions that could completely jeopardize the old Security System.
